Expo Floriade 2022 | Holland: A Celebration of Green Innovation

Since the development of the expo was taking place during the pandemic and shut down, it wasn't fully ready on our visit mid April of 2022.

The unfortunate truth is that this was the last Expo Florida, so even though we only caught a glimpse, we'll never be able to go back. It was announced in 2023 that the Netherlands would no longer host this expo.

Diving into the Theme: Growing Green Cities

The theme of Expo Floriade 2022 is "Growing Green Cities," inviting visitors to explore the latest innovations in the fields of green technology, food production, health, and energy. There were five main areas to explore: Urban District, Hortus Avenue, Eco District, Green Island and Utopia Island. Since we had little time, we high-tailed it through the Urban and Hortus area to jump on the cable cars and hit up Utopia Island.

As cities continue to grow and expand, it is crucial to find innovative solutions that mitigate the environmental impact and enhance the quality of life for urban dwellers. If we had known this was going to the be the last Floriade, we would have planned to go back for a real visit. I was blown away by the amount of work that went into the Expo and all the creative designs we got to experience. It was truly a once in a life time event, if I had taken more time to learn about it before our river cruise I might have been made the decision to extend our stay just to get a less rush tease of Floriade.

Once every 10 years, the Expo Floriade takes place in Holland, bringing together individuals with a passion for all things green. This major world exhibition offers a unique opportunity to taste, smell, and enjoy nature in all its glory. Floriade showcases the remarkable green solutions developed by innovators and forward-thinking individuals who are dedicated to making our cities more enjoyable, livable, and sustainable.

This is a MASSIVE experience and just having the 4-5 hours on our excursion did not give us enough time to really enjoy. I think we could have spent a week here and not gotten bored.
