Our Review of Club Regina in Los Cabos

A Comprehensive Review of Club Regina in Los Cabos: A Mixed Bag Experience. Not as bad as I might make it sound....

It's worth noting that our stay at Club Regina was very short compared to those that vacation here frequently. It was 2 nights pre cruise, well, UnCruise stay, that is. The cruise company had a deal with an all inclusive resort up the road that did not interest me at all. We're not typically all inclusive/big resort people, the rooms seemed boring and simple and it appeared to be easily crowded. I searched high and low form something I felt was more inline with us and found Club Regina Los Cabo. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, though many things need some improvements. Read about the epic uncruise adventure we had here

I was hoping Club Regina was going to be phenomenal and we could recommend them to UnCruise for their new hospitality suite and resort of choice for their sailing. Especially since they are looking to expand their Baja itineraries.. Unfortunately, Club Regina needs to improve on a few things. Mostly their in room spas.

Heated Pools or Not?

Club Regina had beautiful pools that overlooked to ocean, you could watch whale swim past and enjoy a drink from the swim up bar. Though the advertised "heated pool" seemed like a joke to us Texans. We arrived early December for a very short two night stay before our Uncruise Adventure in Baja's Sea Of Cortez. When arrived in a rare December Rain as it rained on our day of arrival the the day before- bringing the tempter down in he air and waters. I think Club Regina must have turned off their heated pool during the rains, but did not think to turn them back on early Saturday morning in anticipation from what the weekend guest would have wanted to enjoy.

The expectation of a warm and inviting pool at a resort is often a significant factor influencing our reason we booked here. So that was a bit disappointing but I'd imagine it did warm up throughout the day.

I'm going to write this off as a fluke based on the bad weather the Thursday and Friday before our Saturday morning in the pool. We did see many more people in the pools later in the day.

Room Comfort and Amenities

The accommodations at Club Regina in Los Cabos are designed to provide guests with a blend of comfort and convenience. Most rooms are furnished with a kitchenette, which is a notable feature for travelers seeking a sense of home while away from home. These kitchenettes are equipped with necessary appliances such as a refrigerator, microwave, and stove, allowing guests to prepare meals at their convenience. This addition is especially beneficial for families or individuals who prefer to manage their dietary requirements without relying solely on dining options available at the resort. They also offered a small store where you could by water, juices, beer wine, liquor, coffee and snack like food. If you are planing to stay a week or two, make sure to hit a proper grocery store on your way in. Note. NOTHING is given to you in your room. No free waters or coffee. If you'd like coffee, you can get one with your breakfast or walk/bellboy up to to lobby where their is a Starbucks style coffee bar.

In terms of space, the rooms at Club Regina are designed to feel inviting and spacious. Guests can expect a cozy atmosphere that encourages relaxation after a day of exploring the scenic beauty of Los Cabos. You can watch whales swim by from your balcony or windows and see dozens of sea birds make their rounds up and down the coast each morning and evening. The decor strikes a balance between contemporary design and traditional Mexican influences, offering an aesthetic that appeals to various tastes. Comfortable beds and sufficient light contribute to an atmosphere conducive to restful nights, undeniably a crucial factor for any vacationer. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash was really top quality.

Our room had the strangest light layout, often many switches not controlling anything, or lights being burnt out. Odd and corky. Our water showers in both showers, yes we had a two bathroom suite, the pressure was insane, both in a good way, but also in a guilty way, like how much water did we splurge through in few showers we took there?

After hanging in the freezing pool in the morning, we thought we would warm up in our spa tub. BAD IDEA

Most, if not all rooms offer a jetted in ground private tub. I would avoid it like the plague. NASTY, NASTY, DON'T EVEN TRY!!! 1st shot, we started to fill it with hot/ warm water... A few moments of the red murky water enters. No big deal, probably the pipes and fitting have some rust. filled a little more until it was running clear again, drained and started over. Good clear water, until you hit the jets, then NASTY furry water and dusty dirtiness enters, I'm talking large amounts of human body hair... nope... After we drained that suss-pool, my hubby examined the "filter" a bad idea, that was disturbing.

Dining Experience: Culinary Highlights and Service Drawbacks

The dining experience at Club Regina in Los Cabos offers a unique blend of culinary delights that captures the essence of local flavors while also providing familiar international options. Renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, the on-site restaurants serve a diverse range of dishes, crafted from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. From expertly grilled seafood to rich, flavorful salsas, flavors intended to tantalize the taste buds are evident throughout the menu. We opted to pay for the included breakfast buffet and it was really wonderful. The only negative was the very cute, very large kangaroo rat that crawled out of the cabinet across my foot. Had I been wearing sandals VS tennis shoes, I probably would have had a fit. but this didn't actually phase me much. The chances of any hotel/resort that serves a tremendous amount of food to not have vermin is slim to none. The place was very well maintained and clean, these pest just happen to be part of our ecosystems. I'd be more concern about the bats than the rats anyways. I'd recommend not leaving your doors or windows open as there are plenty of bats around. Don't want to accidentally get bit.

Among the dining options, the restaurant featuring Mediterranean cuisine stands out, offering a splendid array of dishes that cater to various dietary needs. Great seafood! The themed nights present a great opportunity for guests to savor cultural fare, making dining more than just a meal, but an experience of discovery. However, despite the exceptional food quality, some notable shortcomings in service. Instances of long wait times for food and drink orders can detract from the overall dining enjoyment. Staff attentiveness seems to vary, with some patrons noting that servers may seem overwhelmed during peak dining hours, leading to lapses in service.

Rocky Shores & Terrible Currents makes for a Lovely Relaxed Beach

The beach was lovely and secluded, if you were able to venture down there. Lots of steps to take and no real golf cart route to the secluded beach. The side beach neighbored to the Westin hotel resort and we did get whistled at while exploring over there. Though neither hotel owns the beaches here, those are own by the government, it's just the Westin actually had a lifeguard on duty whose responsibility it to keep people out of the ocean. It very strong waves and rip currents along with e jagged rocks make this beautiful beach very dangerous indeed. We ventured down to secluded beach nestle between large bouldering shore rocks and laid on a couple of loungers for hours, it was sure bliss. Everyone that venture down was also quiet and just took in the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore and rocks. If you want to swim in the ocean in Cabo, there are not many hotels/resorts that have swimmable beaches. You'd have to go to a public beach nearby or phony up the premium for a much pricier resort.

The day pass we got for the GR Solaris from UnCruise, we tried to check out the beach and with in moments of stepping foot onto the beach we got hassled by merchants - another win for Club Regina here!

Resort Layout and Accessibility: Hills, Stairs, and Golf Carts

Club Regina, nestled within the picturesque mountainside of Los Cabos, offers guests a unique resort layout characterized by steep hills and winding pathways. This architectural choice, while aesthetically pleasing, presents certain accessibility challenges for visitors. The layout requires guests to navigate various elevations and terrains, which can be demanding for those with mobility issues or physical limitations. It's essential for potential visitors to be aware of this when planning their stay.

Upon arrival, guests may notice that the required travel between different sections of the resort often relies on either climbing stairs or traversing inclined walkways. While some guests may find the exercise invigorating, others may experience fatigue due to the continuous ascent and descent. The layout can create a sense of seclusion in certain areas, but can also complicate trips back to the main facilities such as the dining areas and pools.

To mitigate these challenges, the resort employs bell boys who operate oversized golf carts to assist with transportation. This service is particularly beneficial for those carrying heavy luggage or for families with children. The bell boys are known for their friendly demeanor and willingness to provide support, enhancing the overall experience for guests navigating the resort's terrain. While the golf carts are a convenient solution, waiting times may vary during peak periods, and some guests may prefer a more continuous access experience.

Overall, the unique topographical design of Club Regina can lead to both advantages and disadvantages. The stunning views and natural ambiance provide a distinctive charm, while the physical demands of the layout may impact guests’ experiences differently. Therefore, understanding the layout's implications can equip visitors with essential knowledge to make the most of their stay at this beautiful resort.

Rating. . .

Overall, past the groodiness I'd say a solid 3.5 out of 5. If the spa tub wasn't nasty, I'd given them a 4.5 and pitched them to be considered for the UnCruise folks.

Loved the spacious balcony and required added exercise to get around the place. We only used the bellboys at our arrival and exiting because of our luggage.

If we go back to Cabo, especially for a longer resort only trip, We might come back here. They do try a hard sales pitch to their timeshare, which luckily we dodge because our stay was so short, but the online reviews are mostly bad about this sales pitch.

The food was world better than that of the UnCruise Hospitality, as we got day passes when we arrived there and could freely enjoy meals, cocktails and the resort as a whole. The lunch buffet at GR Solaris was lovely but lack luster.

After comparing our meals purchased with Club Regina, the money we saved by not booking GR Solaris and paying for a taxi to GR Solaris, we probably broke even, We had a better room, better views and better food, so it was worth it to us. It's not convenient though. No ATM onsite so we walked next door to Westin so we could tip the bellboy for our return to the checkout.

Ways they can improve:

  • Clean your nasty spa tubs! Especially since these are featured in every room. like WTF?

  • Offer electric assist bikes or scooters vs bell boys

  • Get an ATM

  • Offer and all meal package vs just a breakfast package

  • Heat your pools
